My Portfolio

Image
My Portfolio This Portfolio contains all the work I have completed during my time with Bolt. It contains the projects I worked on and my invovlement in them.  Bolt have been an absolute pleasure to work with and they were happy to keep me on over the summer, this is an amazing opportunity to expand my knowledge and build on the skills I have aquired over my 3 months placement. The Bolt team is pretty small so I was able to work closely with each member of the team. I had a number of roles while I was working there, these were working with drive management, creating concepts for clothing as well as being second (AC) which means assistant cameraman, as well as working with lighting specialists and building sets with the set designer steve.

List of my Favourite Adverts  Here is a list of my favourite adverts that Bolt have made over the last 2 years. Dogs Trust - Puppy farm awareness   Please offer me a seat - TFI Bread Adventure - SuperValu Chain of Shame - Department of Justice

MiWadi Project

Image
MiWadi Project There were plenty of test shoots and tweaking with this set and the actions and some things as small as the straw in the glass. This was the most intriguing set I've seen so far and even the set designer Steve created a whole kitchen in the studio which looked amazing.  The spotlights will the filters showing on the fridge looked amazing and gave huge detail to the set. There was also this lighting technique I've never seen before called a booklight, this is where the light is sitting in front of an ultra bounce and then the bouncing light that comes from that goes into a diffusion and this creates this softer lighting effect and is mainly used in interview settings.

Seai Energy Project

Image
Seai Energy Project I was able to have a big involvement in this advert. It was a short stop motion advert showing the benefits of using solar panels and being environmentally friendly. Previously I showed Bolt this stop-motion video that I made a couple of months beforehand, so I feel like this is why I was able to work with the pieces on set by myself. Burger King Whopper

Image
Burger King Whopper This was a quick TikTok that Burger King wanted to advertise their vegan whopper burger as well as their standard whopper burger.  There were so many different techniques that went into this advert and was definitely the most complex TikTok I've ever seen made. There was an issue with the green screen and the light of the green bouncing onto the table this would make the burger box on the table disappear and we didn't want that so we had other lights to shine directly on the box to minimize the green light leaking.

Glenveagh Homes Project

Image
Glenveagh Home Project The Glenveagh shoot was to promote the houses they were setting up in both CityWest and Mullingar, the first set was in Citywest and this was the first ever production day I was on as it was literally my first day. The whole day was split into different locations and this was to film at each point of interest. A month later we would film again in Mullingar, filming the popular spots, and then go on to do interviews and b-roll footage in their office in Mullingar as well   was split up nicely in the morning with the voiceovers from the people who worked in the Glenveagh offices, these voice-overs lasted about 30 minutes, then we went around the office taking zoom in videos of the quotes on the wall and their brand standards, this coupled with some quick shots of the staff organizing plans on the whiteboards and walking around the office.

Centra April Fools

Image
Centra April Fools Shoot The ad was for Centra and they wanted to do this advert for April Fools, this was for a ‘bag’guette, this was a pretty cool idea and we all knew it was a joke but it was really well received when the ad came out, most of the comments were actually waiting for this to come out or where they could buy it. We start setting up this new type of booklight that I’ve never seen before, with this type it was basically just a horizontal version of the lighting setup. With this version, we had a 600d light laying on the floor held up with the legs on the bottom half of the C stand. The 600d light had a focused light filter to stop the ray of light from leaking, above this we had an ultra-bounce tilted 45-degree angle being held up with two C stands there was also a diffusion hanging so that when it bounces off the ultra-bounce and lights the syc area where the advert will be shot .

SuperValu Project

Image
SuperValu Insurance Preparing for the next advert we were working on and this was the SuperValu insurance, SuperValu are best known for their supermarkets and convenience stores around Ireland but with this ad, they’re announcing that they’re going to branch out to Car, Home, and life insurance, The idea for this ad is to have a guy named Kevin in the middle of a call center with other office chairs and desks behind him, and the slogan is that SuperValu Insurance is the soundest Insurance out there. The first part of the day was green screen focused and had Daithí acting with the green screen behind him with the desks and chairs in the background and the second half of the day, the other extras came in to be the workers in the background for when we took down the green screen. We filmed them on their computer in the background while Kevin is talking and giving the outro. This along with some B-role footage of the office and the extras getting up and down from their chairs was all we ne...

Audi Project

Image
AUDI Advert Starting Out The Audi Advert was going on the longest of all the other projects, it was one of the first things I worked on, on my first week in Bolt. I built this test set with all the lights and the background setup. To see what the project would look like. I was able to be the first test interview that would be set to the Audi client to see if we would get the approval . There was a bit of time before we heard back from the clients and there was a lot of back and forth figuring out something that could work between us and the client. During Project This shoot was in production because Audi wanted to create this video that would go on their website directed at their existing staff as well as others who would be thinking about joining Audi in the future. This campaign was being shot at 7 different locations, and I missed the first two days of filming. The filming started on Wednesday but I was in college that day so the next day I came out on Thursday evening on the train ...
